This post is all about What Causes Personal Growth.

What Is Personal Growth

Pushing oneself to become the finest possible version of him/herself is referred to as personal growth or self improvement. It is the pursuit of new skill acquisition, thought processes, personality traits, and mental and physical capacities.

Personal development is an endless journey with a beginning and no apparent end. The art of improving on yesterday’s self is at the heart of personal growth. Every day should be an opportunity to develop our capacities, minds, interpersonal relationships, and way of life in general.

Change Triggers personal Growth

Change is the only constant in this world. For many different people, change can mean many different things. People, places, and situations can all undergo change. While some changes come about without warning, others have a purpose. Moreove, there is avoidable change and inevitable change, such as losing a loved one.

While change is usually attached to negative feelings and worrisome, not all of it is bad. New experiences, new perspectives, new ideas and discovering new passions are considered “good” changes. The more you experience life (the good and the bad), the more growth you will experience as a person.

Change is the ultimate stimulus for personal growth. When change happens, you grow mentally, spiritually, emotionally, socially and hopefully physically.

“Moving doesn’t change who you are. It only changes the view outside your window.”

– Rachel Hollis

Transform Past Experiences into Learning opportunities

Everything in life is a matter of perspective. Either the glass is half full or half empty, it is you who decides what to examine. The same goes to troubling challenges in your life, they could either make or break you depending on your perspective.

Past experiences are considered essential for personal growth. They act as a foundation for which the new version of yourself will live the rest of your life on. Truth of the matter is that without the past there is no future, this translates perfectly in regards to personal growth.

Whether it may be skills that you lacked, false beliefs and ideas (about yourself) you had or knowledge that you simply found useless at that particular time in your life, now is the time to pursue and strengthen your weaknesses.

Past Failures immensely help Personal Growth

Failing is the seed of success, without it you and I will never evolve. While most people get discouraged and lose hope in the presence of failure, ambitious individuals go back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong.

Attitude is such an undervalued attribute in modern day life. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself that you failed, study and analyze what went wrong and how you could prevent it (failing) from happening the next time. Recycle your pain.

While it really feels horrible to fail at anything in life, it is necessary for personal growth. All the crying, negative emotions and sh*tty feelings should be the catalyst for your growth. These emotions should motivate you, remember how it feels when you are broken and hopeless. These feelings will jumpstart your personal growth journey.

The late great Kobe Bryant once said this right after losing the 2008 NBA Finals

“It’s exciting,” Bryant told Howes about losing. “Because it means you have different ways to get better. There are certain things you can figure out, that you can take advantage of, certain weaknesses that were exposed that you need to shore up. So it’s exciting. It sucks to lose but at the same time, there are answers there if you just look at them.

You Will Find Strength In Losing

Going through hard and challenging times is a blessing in disguise. While it sucks in the beginning, you will begin to reap the benefits in the end. This is the essence of what personal growth teaches, transformation.

Once you get through the tough and turbulent times of life, you will not recognize the person in the mirror anymore. Your attitude will change along with all the false beliefs you had about yourself. Furthermore, you will begin to experience a whole new perspective of life. Maturity will slowly kick in, you realize what is worth it in life and what is not.

Legendary pilot Chuck Yeager was asked about how it felt when he became the first pilot confirmed to have exceeded the speed of sound in level flight.

“Just before you break through the sound barrier, the cockpit shakes the most.”

– Chuck Yeager

Such as life, when everything begins to shake around you hold your ground. This new stronger version of yourself (mentally and emotionally) will only make you hungrier to become the best version of yourself, amplifying your personal growth journey.

Revenge is a part of personal growth

“The best revenge is massive success.”

– Frank Sinatra

It is said that revenge yields nothing but misery. However, avenging your former self with massive amounts of success is necessary for personal growth.

As you begin to mold yourself into the best version of you, it will come to your realization that you treated yourself poorly in the past. Whether it may be because you were young, emotional or kind hearted does not matter now, the old you failed you and that’s the bottom line.

This feeling alone should make you angry and motivate you even more to transform, evolve and grow into your own greatness. Use the anger, frustration and pain of the past as fuel to grow and become successful. Recycle your pain, you are already in pain, get something from it.

Fulfill Your Potential

Fulfilling your potential could mean becoming a millionaire or starting a family, depending on who you ask. One of the worst feelings anyone could experience is wasted potential. On the contrary, it is an absolute blast of a feeling if someone fulfills his/her potential. In this regard, fulfilling your potential means that you become the utmost best version of yourself.

The beauty of seeking out your potential is that you free yourself from all the physical and mental limitations you have about yourself. Furthermore, you free yourself from negative social stigma and “rules” that do nothing but kill your dreams.

Take for example the 1913 incident of The Law Society, where women were refused to attend the law society examination. The court ruled that these women were not “people ” according to the meaning of the Solicitors act of 1843.

The core aspect of personal growth is to continually and consistently improve and “grow” as a person. This is one of the pillars of personal growth and one of the sole reasons why people embark on this amazing journey. However, trying to reach your potential is easier said than done. It requires dedication, sacrifice and a strong convincing “why” to keep you going when you don’t feel like it.

Conclusion
