The Importance Of Personal Growth
There is no worse feeling than wasted potential, that is why personal growth is of ultimate importance. Imagine the feeling of waking up in your late 70’s only to discover that you wasted years and decades of your life doing nothing.
That is the reason people practice personal growth and self development, in order to fulfill their uttermost potential in life.
These are some reasons why everyone (no matter how old or young) should start his/her personal growth journey now.
“Imagine you’re on your deathbed. And standing around your deathbed are the ghosts, representing your unfulfilled potential, the ghosts of the ideas you never acted on, the ghosts of the talents you didn’t use”.
– Denzel Washington

What Is Personal Growth
Personal development, often known as self improvement, is the act of pushing oneself to become the best version of his/herself. It involves pursuing the creation of new cognitive processes, behavioral patterns, personality traits, and mental and physical capacities.
Personal development is an endless process with no end in sight. The art of getting better today than you were yesterday is at the heart of personal growth. Every day should present a chance to advance our knowledge, attitudes, interpersonal interactions, and way of life in general.
The amount of your progress is insignificant; rather, the consistency of such advancements is the most vital factor. A never-ending cycle of life improvement involves mastering all aspects of our existence.
Why Personal Growth Is Important
Personal development is crucial because it builds a solid basis for future development. It gives you the skills and information you need to develop into the best version of yourself.
Moreover, becoming the best version of yourself is not only for you, it’s for the people that are dependent on you (children, family, friends). The fact that you have the bravery to pursue the best ending for yourself sets you apart from “average” people.
One of my favorite self-development quotes reads, “the goal is to become uncommon amongst uncommon people.”

You quickly display strong character traits, excellent personal attributes, unmatched drive, and most importantly resilience in your quest to become a better version of yourself.
You’ll naturally adopt a mindset of a leader—someone whom people look up to in tough circumstances. And guess what? The workplace especially cherishes all of these qualities.
No matter if you work for a large organization or just have a regular day job, people who possess such qualities are sought after.
You’ll Have Better Relationships With Other People.
When you become a better version of yourself, every aspect of your life gets upgraded including relationships. You will begin to attract people that are better than you in (X) or (Y).
These people will help elevate your life if you ask the proper questions and maintain a good attitude.
Furthermore, as you improve you become a magnet, people will willingly try to spend time with you, ask you questions and try to pick up your brain.
Learn New Things Frequently
A core feature of personal growth is learning and educating yourself. Whether it’s learning about yourself, your environment or a new language is up to you.
The important thing is to learn, no matter how stupid the thing you are trying to learn is.
Of course it is recommended to educate yourself on subjects that you feel passionate about to avoid feeling boredom after a while.
If you are passionate about technology maybe try to learn coding, if you are passionate about cooking try attending cooking classes etc…
Make an effort to become a sponge, ask as many questions as possible and try to “absorb” as much as you can. Become open minded, as you try new activities, you will know what you like and what you don’t therefore you learn more about yourself.
Your views of the world will more than likely change, as you read more and enhance your learning skills.
Well Thought-out Decisions And Effective Problem Solving
As you begin reading more books and educating yourself your psyche will improve dramatically. You will begin to have a whole new view on life in general and thus you will likely make better decisions for yourself and your loved ones.
The ability to analyze problems more effectively and come up with suitable solutions is an important step in your personal development journey.
Financial And Personal Success
As you work on honing your skills day in and day out, you will become a master at your craft. The more good you become at something, the more valuable you become in society.
You will be sought after by private businesses and big corporations and that means two things (A) financial stability and (B) personal success. These aspects are a recipe for success and living a healthy, happy life.

Amplifying Your Strengths
The art of personal growth provides us with tools and philosophies that help us identify strengths and weaknesses. You may better understand yourself and how you function by being aware of your strengths and shortcomings.
If you were considering career alternatives, you might be able to focus on a certain position based on the skills you are confident in having.
Additionally, knowing your strengths empowers you to set higher standards for yourself and accomplish more.
Understanding your weaknesses also helps you identify any potential obstacles in your path. So that your deficiencies don’t limit you, you can then work on these areas.
Better Adaptation To Change
Whether we like it or not, the only consistent thing in life is change. As long as you begin to grasp, understand and accept this concept you are already ahead of the curve.
Life can be unexpected at times and we certainly don’t have infinite control over it so what do we do? We prepare.
By becoming the strongest version of yourself physically and mentally you are preparing yourself to withhold unexpected change. As the great Kobe Bryant once said after injuring his achilles late in his career.
“No matter what happens the storm eventually ends. And when the storm does end you want to make sure that you’re ready.”
Kobe Bryant
Negative emotions and bad days are inevitable, the only thing we can do is control how we react to them and that is done through preparing ourselves mentally and physically.
Furthermore, according to a recent study done in 2021, in which a comparison was conducted to look at reported changes in “well-being” of individuals before the pandemic and how they affected “well-being” during the pandemic.
Results indicate that while the majority of participants’ well-being declined for reasonable reasons (such as loneliness, unfavorable feelings, and alienation), higher levels of adaptation were related to improvements in well-being during physical distance compared to before.
Mastering Weaknesses leads to Personal Growth
Knowing your strengths is important but some may argue that accepting your weaknesses is just as if not more important.
We are human beings and we all have a set of strengths and weaknesses, nothing to be ashamed about. Embrace your weaknesses and view them as opportunities to better yourself.
Analyze why this thing/subject/activity is a weakness in your life, find its root cause and formulate a plan to improve upon it.
How you react and approach your weaknesses is just as important as working on them. It’s about attitude, change that and you will improve immensely.
The Comfort Zone Is a Big No No!
“Greatness begins beyond your comfort zone”.
A settled method of working that requires little effort and yields only barely acceptable results is the definition of a comfort zone. Nothing inspiring to say the least.
We as human beings are creatures of habit, we are happy and delightful as long as everything is going “according to plan”.
Once things get out of hand, we freak out. Little do we know that at the end of tough challenges we find growth and peace.
Stepping outside of one’s comfort zone is immensely important in order to evolve and improve mentally and physically.
Imagine if you spent the rest of your life doing the same routine over and over, how much progress will you achieve during your lifespan? Here’s a hint: not much.
The goal is to live life, not existing in it and that is achieved by taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Drastically Improve Mental Health
Throughout the years it has been successfully proven that personal development correlates well with our mental health. It is only natural that the more educated you become your arsenal of tools against adversity grows in number.
By looking up to noble men and women throughout history who fought and won their battles, you learn from their experiences first hand. Moreover, as you learn to control your emotions(usually the negative ones) via personal development, the state of your mental health will improve.
Individuals with a growth mentality may be more robust and persistent in the face of problems or difficulties, since they are more inclined to employ effort-oriented tactics in their efforts to reach their goals.
A large amount of research has demonstrated that the idea that one’s skills and talents can be developed rather than being fixed can encourage long-term learning.
Growth mentality encourages challenge-seeking behaviors and persistence in the face of setbacks in terms of behavioral results, and it has a beneficial impact on academic performance in elementary, secondary, and higher education.
A research comparing students who engage in self-development to those who do not was conducted in 2002.
Results show that individuals who practice personal growth might have more effective coping mechanisms and, as a result, might have better mental health and less awareness of major life events than individuals who don’t.
