Improving Your Mentality Leads To Personal Growth

Woman thinking about how to improve her mental health.

Some people question why should you improve your mentality? Whereas the question should be How to improve your mentality.

Imagine if there is no room for growth in this world, how boring and depressing would that be? Moreover, imagine if humans know 100% of everything there is to be known, that’s even more depressing to even think of.

Thankfully this is not reality, and in order to evolve and achieve greatness we have to know how to use our mental capabilities to our advantage and improve our mentality. Conquer the mind and you conquer the world.

This post is all about How To Improve Your Mentality.

The Simple Equation To Improve Your Mentality

“A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and a healthy mind is the most important tool you can have as a business owner.”

― Pooja Agnihotri

A healthy mind needs a healthy body to work as intended and become as efficient as possible. You cannot have a healthy mind if you have an unhealthy body and vice versa. Taking care of your mindset and mentality is only one part of  the equation in achieving progress in your personal development journey.

Furthermore, when you improve your mentality everything else will follow including your spiritual, physical, emotional and social growth. Think of your mind as a computer processor, if its a strong one your pc will be fast and efficient. However, if you have a dated pc with an ancient processor it will dread even the simple tasks such as opening the web browser.

Upgrade your mentality and your whole life will follow.

Take Care Of Others And Your Environment – To Improve Your Mentality

One of the few things I still remember from science class is that “energy is neither created or destroyed” which turns out to be the law of conservation of energy. We choose how we utilize our energy levels throughout the day.

Use your energy towards something that gives back in return. Spend time and effort improving something or someone. Have the attitude that you want to do anything you can to support, uplift, and inspire everyone you come into contact with.

According to a recent study in which researchers analyzed information from study participants in the Detroit, Michigan, area. Baseline interviews were conducted with participants to assess stressful situations from the previous year and whether they had helped friends or family members in concrete ways.

For an average of 20 to 39 hours, most respondents (74%) said they had assisted a close friend or family member in the previous year. 70% of those polled said they had not recently gone through anything difficult in their lives; 26% had, while 4% had gone through two or three.

Along with other forms of social engagement, helping behavior has been linked to improved health outcomes, including a lower mortality rate. Given that it mitigates the link between stress and mortality, the current research shows that volunteering to help those who are important to you will lead to a lower risk of death.

Count Your BlessingsTo Improve Your Mentality

Life in the 21st century where social media, tweeting and twerking is rampant, it can be extremely stressful and toxic. Take time out of your day to practice gratitude and simply observe the beautiful world we live in.

Think of all the blessings that you have and become grateful towards them. Practice positive thinking and become optimistic towards the future.

As the great Denzel Washington once said “ Say thank you for grace, thank you for mercy, thank you for understanding, thank you for wisdom, thank you for parents, thank you for love, thank you for kindness, thank you for humility, thank you for peace, thank you for prosperity.”

Learning is a core feature of personal development. The more you learn the greater your growth will become. Now by learning I don’t mean going to your local library and solving integral (yuck!) equations all day long. Knowledge can and should be fun. Establish a routine of trying new things, visiting new locations, and picking up new skills.

Start experiencing new activities and lifestyles. Go out and just wander around, explore your surroundings and be free of the false image you have of yourself.

Never stay in one phase of your life too long. We won’t develop, advance, or change if we don’t enhance our experiences and education. Visit new settings and lifestyles to gain knowledge of fresh approaches and techniques.

“The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Unplug From The WorldHelps To Improve Your Mentality

The word “recovery” is often linked to the body. Little do we know that the mind needs as much if not more recovery time to function effectively.

Through all the chaos of life (the good and the bad) take time to unplug and recover your mind. Our fast paced world can become extremely stressful if things get out of hand.

You can reduce stress levels greatly by taking time “off” and shifting your energy towards yourself (mind and body). Put reflection, prayer, and solitude in the top priority list. You can set aside some time each day to relax, unwind, and let your batteries recharge.

Some activities that help you “unplug” :

  • Meditation
  • Prayer
  • Reading
  • Listening to calm soothing music
  • Camping
  • Go to a quiet place

Man exploring the world to experience mental clarity and experience mental growth.

Human beings were not created to sit behind a desk from 5 – 9. The workplace and even your home(if you work from home) can become a mentally draining place.

Every once in a while go outside and gaze upon the beauty of our world. It’s also great to be out and about in fresh air.

Nature can frequently calm us down and rejuvenate us by serving as a constant reminder of all the beauty in the world.

Strong Relationships Come A Long Way

Spending quality time with family and friends can be such a refreshing experience from the hustle and bustle of the world. Moreover, your mood immediately improves.

Spending as much time with your loved ones as possible will likely increase dopamine levels in your body enhancing that “feel good” emotions.

Try sharing experiences with your friends and hope to gain knowledge from theirs. Communicate as much as you can with forward thinking people and try to engage in meaningful conversations.

Challenge Yourself

Diamonds are created when carbon deposits deep within the earth are subject to high temperature and pressure. I’m a firm believer that challenges are put in front of us to help prepare us for the future (while also growing mentally and emotionally).

Challenges could be anything in life from academic exams to tough times (either financially, mentally or physically). However, the way you react to these challenges will separate you from the rest. You will see yourself evolve, grow and mature when you compare yourself to pre and post challenges.

Benefits of challenging oneself

  • Grow as an individual
  • Gain awareness, knowledge and skills
  • Become healthier both physically and mentally
  • Achieve a goal every month
  • Advance in your career
  • Become a better friend or partner
  • Seek inspiration and be more creative
  • Gain new experiences and have more fun
  • Achieve peace and happiness
  • Challenges Help You See Your Potential
  • You fulfill your potential

The great Kobe Bryant once said this regarding challenges:

“ Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.”

Be Mindful Of How You Treat Yourself

There is an ancient Japanese proverb that prohibits anyone from talking negatively about themselves.

“Do not speak bad of yourself. For the warrior within hears your words and is lessened by them.”

I can’t emphasize enough how true this actually is.

The way you speak to yourself either negatively or positively has an immediate impact on yourself, your confidence and your overall psyche. How frequently do you tell yourself you can’t do something or that today is going to be a bad day?

Negative language and expressions generate negative energy. The interesting part is that the better you get at it (positive or negative talk) you actually invite that energy into your life.

Like it or not, we as human beings are magnets. If you are a negative person that views the glass half empty, negative energies and auroras will immediately be attracted to you. You speak things into existence even if you are unaware of them. Negative talk is you setting yourself up for something terrible or “negative” to happen.

One of the greatest boxers of all time Floyd ”money” Mayweather once said this regarding his success.

“When I changed my name from pretty boy Floyd to Money Mayweather, I started making money. You have to speak things into existence.”

Be Open To Anyone And Anything

The human mind is truly a remarkable muscle. It can help you achieve success in all aspects of life or it could destroy you altogether. The opportunities in this world are endless only if you keep an open mind.

However, if you are a close minded person that believes that you can only achieve and grow so much in life you are implementing limits to your future. Furthermore, opportunities will indeed become scarce and you won’t grow (personally and mentally) as much, I can assure you that.

Instead, have an open mindset that feeds your will to grow as a person. Be open to new cultures, ways of living, people, places and ideas. It does matter if you are in your early 20’s or in your late 80’s, if there is a will there’s a way. How boring and predictable would life be if we knew everything about the world? There is always new avenues to pursuit and knowledge to be learned.

Conclusion

The mind is a strong tool that can make or break you. In order to pursue your personal growth journey, you have to enhance your mentality.

Summary –

  • A healthy mind needs a healthy body to function efficiently
  • Counting your blessings has an amazing effect on your views of the world
  • The more you gain knowledge the greater your growth will become
  • Strong relationships are essential in order to achieve balance between work and life
  • Be careful how you talk to yourself when you are alone
  • Always try to challenge and test yourself

Have you ever tried to improve upon your mindset? If so, what techniques and methods worked for you and yielded the best results?
