This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional, like a doctor or mental health professional, can help you determine the next best steps for you.

Welcome to the world of the OCD Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) test, a widely recognized and standardized assessment tool designed to evaluate the severity of symptoms associated with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
The Y-BOCS test serves as a valuable resource for clinicians, researchers, and individuals seeking to better understand the nature and extent of their OCD symptoms. Through a comprehensive set of questions and rating scales, the Y-BOCS test provides a systematic way to assess the frequency, intensity, and interference caused by obsessions and compulsions.
By taking this test, you gain valuable insights into the specific areas of your life that are affected by OCD, helping you and your healthcare provider to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
Remember that the Y-BOCS test is just one part of the diagnostic process, and its results should be interpreted in conjunction with a thorough clinical assessment. Embrace the opportunity to engage with the Y-BOCS test and take a step towards gaining a deeper understanding of your OCD symptoms.

What Is Y-BOCS?
The Yale Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale is regarded as the “gold standard” in the measurement of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptom severity and treatment response.
It is a semi-structured interview that consists of 10 core items, 5 measuring time, interference, distress, resistance and control of obsessions (items: 1–5), and 5 identical items measuring compulsions (items: 6–10). The items are rated from 0 (no symptoms) to 4 (severe symptoms), and yield a global severity score (range 0–40).
Use the results to help decide if you need to see a doctor or other mental health professional to further discuss diagnosis and treatment of OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).
Y-BOCS OCD Curriculum
If you have both obsessions and compulsions, and your overall score is:
- 0-7 = Subclinical OCD Symptoms
- 8-15 = Mild OCD Symptoms
- 16-23 = Moderate OCD Symptoms
- 24-31= Severe OCD Symptoms
- 32-40 = Extreme OCD Symptoms
No single test is completely accurate. You should always consult your physician when making decisions about your health.
Instructions
- This is a screening measure to help you determine whether you might benefit from an evaluation by a mental health professional for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
- For each item, indicate the extent to which it is true by checking the appropriate box next to the item.
This quiz can’t replace a clinical diagnosis. If you believe you might have bipolar disorder or another condition after taking this test, consider reaching out to a qualified professional about your symptoms.
